How Northwind Supply Co. runs inventory: valuation, numbering, approvals, alerts, and who can do what. Every change is saved through the API and recorded in the audit log.
How the value of stock on hand is calculated for reports and the balance sheet. The ledger itself (quantities and receipt costs) doesn't change when you switch.
Issuing strategy
Which batch leaves first when stock is reserved, shipped or transferred.
Confirmed sales orders move stock from available to reserved straight away. When off, someone reserves it as a separate step.
Quantities already on order are subtracted from suggested reorders, so you don't buy the same stock twice.
A product is critical when available stock falls to this share of its minimum. Below the reorder level but above this, it's low.
Batches expiring within this many days are flagged, and the daily expiry scan notifies inventory and warehouse managers.
Stock with no outbound movement for this long counts as dead stock in reports.
The person who raised a purchase order, adjustment, transfer or count can't approve it. Recommended; required by most auditors.
